The Greywater Recycling Challenge on BigCarrot.com: Providing Real Incentive to Improve Water Conservation

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 -- Hoping to combine the power of crowd sourcing with the effectiveness of inducement prizes, the Greywater Recycling Challenge was launched this week on BigCarrot (http://www.BigCarrot.com). The challenge encourages municipalities to revise the laws regarding the use of greywater and spur the installation of greywater recycling systems in new and existing homes.

Greywater is household water that's been used for things such bathing and in washing machines that's no longer drinkable but remains perfectly safe for watering plants, irrigating lawns or as toilet water. Currently, however, most cities require that this perfectly usable water be dumped in a home's sewage system. Since up to 80% of a home's fresh water is used for watering lawns, the benefits are quickly realized.

The Greywater Recycling Challenge is a community-funded inducement prize that intends to reduce the wasting of this precious natural resource by offering an incentive for municipalities to revise their laws and encourage the installation of greywater recycling systems in area homes. Using BigCarrot's novel approach to inducement prize funding, everyone across the country is invited to contribute to the endowment of the prize. The Greywater Recycling Challenge marks one of the first times that such a people-powered approach has been taken to addressing such a far-reaching issue.

The challenge is open to any municipality in the United States, and the people are encouraged to review the prize's rules at The Greywater Recycling Challenge Page (http://www.bigcarrot.com/prizes/zqthezjqm). Everyone is invited to participate by contributing to the prize, creating community awareness and helping to spread the word.

Put an end to the waste of greywater. With the public's help, the Greywater Recycling Challenge will be an important step in making the world a more responsible place in which to live.
