Water Resources Policy Leader Elected Water District Chair
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 9, 2008 -- Rosemary Kamei (http://www.valleywater.org/About_Us/Board_of_directors/_Board_members/Rosemary_Kamei.shtm), a leader in dealing with critical water resource policy issues, was Tuesday elected chairperson of the Santa Clara Valley Water District (www.valleywater.org) board of directors for the 2008 calendar year.
Kamei said as the chair she will ?focus on providing the leadership needed to accomplish water district objectives and address our priorities and upcoming issues, including recycled water, flood protection projects and the environmental work we do.?
Kamei said as the new chair she would also like to see a lot more streamlining and a few changes in the district?s budget process.
Kamei - who lives in Morgan Hill -- was first appointed to the board in October 1993 to represent residents in Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, southern San José and Los Gatos following the resignation of a sitting director. She served as the chairperson in 1995 and in 2002.
As a member of the board, Kamei represents the water district on the Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District, the Pajaro River Watershed Flood Prevention Authority, Bay Area Water Agency Forum, Santa Clara Valley Conservation Plan Elected Officials Liaison Group, South County Regional Wastewater Authority, Perchlorate Community Advisory Group, Environmental Advisory Committee, and the Uvas/Llagas Flood Control and Watershed Advisory Committee.
Kamei is Vice President of Development for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, which serves 40 counties in California and northern Nevada.
Kamei holds a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University and a bachelor?s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is fluent in Spanish and has studied Mandarin.
The board also voted Tuesday to elect Sig Sanchez as vice chairman for 2008.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District (www.valleywater.org) manages wholesale drinking water resources and provides stewardship for the county's watersheds, including 10 reservoirs, hundreds of miles of streams and groundwater basins. The water district also provides flood protection throughout Santa Clara County.
