How To Permanently Remove Green Pool Algae and Green Pool Water
Green Pool Water and Green Algae in swimming pools can be a common problem. Nothing can be more disappointing when your look out your back window and you have green pool water.
Swimming pool algae can come in all sorts of colors, from light green algae, right through to black algae. It can float in your water or stick on the walls and the floor of your swimming pool.
There is only one true chemical that will effectively kill algae and that's chlorine.
But before you go adding chlorine to your pool you must put in a little elbow grease. First you must brush the walls and floor of the pool with your pool brush. This will get all the algae floating around in the pool so that the chlorine can attack it from all sides.
Don't be scared to give it a really good scrub. Don't Stress...the pool may actually look worse after you scrub it because everything is now stirred up. Don't worry, thats normal and that will make the chlorine's job a hell of a lot easier to kill your green pool algae.
The sooner you get some chlorine into your pool the better. The longer you wait the worse it will get and eventually the harder to clean.
Now your probably thinking..."How much chlorine do I put in my swimming pool?"
Because there are many types of chlorine's and different dose rates for each type, it can become confusing really quickly. Now here's my little secret! Use liquid chlorine, it works way faster and you don't need to dilute it or pre-dissolve it in a bucket before you put it into the pool.
Tip the liquid chlorine into the pool right in front of the return jet...when the pump is running. This will shoot the chlorine quickly. You want to put in a few gallons and walk away from the pool. Come back in 15 minutes and see if the green pool water has gone lighter? If it looks heaps lighter you've added enough. If not keep adding chlorine until the pool water turns a lighter green.
The lighter color means that the chlorine is killing the green pool algae. That's great!
Now, you want to keep the filter clean and run it continually until the water clears.
If this does not work, you will need to use more drastic action to get rid of your green pool water.
