Water Coolers Direct Donates to the Clean Planet Trust to Become Carbon Neutral

Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing industry today. Certain business sectors are already facing government enforced restrictions on the amount of greenhouse gases they can release into our atmosphere. Rather than taking a wait and see approach some businesses are attempting to make a difference by supporting initiatives that make our world a better place.

Formed in March 2004 Water Coolers Direct are an internet based company who buck the established trends of the water cooler industry, by freeing the consumer of cumbersome rental contracts and offering the opportunity to buy water coolers outright. The company already encourage customers down the Carbon Neutral (http://www.watercoolersdirect.com/about_us/neutral.html) path by suggesting plumbed in water coolers and encouraging customers to sanitise the water coolers themselves, thereby eliminating the need for regular bottled deliveries and sanitisation visits.

Pure: the Clean Planet Trust (http://www.puretrust.org.uk/) is a UK based charity set up with the objective of improving air quality and so combating climate change. Pure was conceived by a group of like-minded individuals that recognised the need for cost-effective voluntary solutions to the carbon problem which extend the success of emissions trading beyond mandatory schemes. Importantly PURE only buys and cancels carbon offset credits from projects that meet Kyoto Protocol requirements such projects are proven to prevent or remove an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere thereby combating climate change.

Water Coolers Direct.com Ltd is a Carbon Offset Partner of Pure: the Clean Planet Trust (registered charity 1112249). The company has calculated the carbon emissions associated with all of their business activities, in total these emissions are currently 8.7 tonnes per year.

To offset the emissions, Water Coolers Direct have made a donation to Pure: the Clean Planet Trust, enabling Pure to purchase and retire carbon credits - the "licenses to pollute" allocated to industry. This prevents them being used, reducing the total amount of carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere. All carbon credits purchased by Pure are sourced from regulated marketplaces and from high quality projects that are subject to independent verification.
